2020 Billboard Music Awards: BTS, Billie Eilish & More Are Nominated in these five categories

Five singles that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and spent a collective 31 weeks in the top spot) are vying for top Hot 100 song.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards are around the corner, and Billboard has your exclusive first look at the nominees for five categories.

BTS is vying for its second consecutive award for top duo/group. The other nominees are Dan + Shay, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5 and Panic! At The Disco. If BTS wins again, they’ll become the first group or duo to win back-to-back awards in this category since another hugely popular boy band import, One Direction, in 2015-16. Dan + Shay’s nomination is remarkable for a core country artist in an all-genre category.

Ariana Grande is going for her second consecutive win for top female artist. She’s competing against Taylor Swift, who won the award in 2013, 2015 and 2018. The other nominees are Billie Eilish, Halsey and Lizzo. If Grande wins again, she’ll become the first artist to win two years running in this category since the BBMAs re-launched in 2011. If Swift wins again, she’ll become the first four-time winner in this category since the show’s re-launch.

For top male artist, the 2018 winner, Ed Sheeran, is competing with DaBaby, Khalid, Lil Nas X and Post Malone. If Sheeran were to win, he’d join Justin Bieber and Drake as the only two-time victors in this category since the show’s relaunch.

The nominees for top new artist are DaBaby, Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo and Roddy Ricch. If Eilish or Lizzo were to win, either would become the first female artist to win in this category since Lorde in 2014.

Five singles that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and spent a collective 31 weeks in the top spot) are vying for top Hot 100 song. They are Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” Eilish “bad guy,” Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus “Old Town Road,” Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” and Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello’s “Señorita.” If Eilish, Lizzo or Mendes/Cabello were to win, it would mark the first time a female artist as lead or co-lead artist has won in this category since Meghan Trainor took the 2015 award with “All About That Bass.”

The front-runner in this category is presumably “Old Town Road,” which logged a record-setting 19 weeks at No. 1. If it wins, this will be the fifth consecutive year that a collaboration has won in this category. The last four winners are Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” (2016), The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey’s “Closer” (2017), Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” (2018) and Maroon 5 ft. Cardi B’s “Girls Like You” (2019).

Kelly Clarkson is hosting the show for the third year in a row. The show is set for Oct. 14.
